Spirit & Soul: The Power of Stillness, Breath & Intention… to support you be the best leader you can be

Dear Best Lifer,

As you’ve been journeying with us over the past three months, you’ve likely observed a common thread weaving through our monthly themes.

We’ve delved into strategies for pursuing your aspirations, with a focus on others and what it takes to strive and push to achieve your own version of success not only in your personal life but also within your organisations and teams.

Here we stand, moving into the cusp of the second quarter, a pivotal time for business owners, managers, leaders, and CEOs alike. With Easter behind us and Autumn enfolding the Southern Hemisphere, let us attune ourselves to the rhythm of the changing seasons, both in nature and in our endeavours and how this can translate our own thoughts and actions.

Winter approaches swiftly—a season for introspection, a time to fortify our strategies and warmth in preparation for the challenges ahead.

As we prepare to rug up with a blanket by the fire, it’s time to ask yourself what does your winter need to let go of and also bring?

As the leaves start to fall from the trees and the sound of them crunching beneath your shoes fills your ears, I invite you to also find the time to focus in on your spirit and soul sector of the wheel of life and ‘let go’ of that which no longer serves you too.

Let us not only witness the natural cycle but also embrace our own evolution, shedding outdated practices and embracing growth.

Stillness beckons—a powerful tool for success.

For those novices among us it’s something we can schedule into our day, we can bring it to our team. meetings, we could practice it at home.

Whether integrated into daily routines, boardroom discussions, or moments of solitude at home, cultivating stillness offers clarity and resilience.

One big practice I swear by is finding stillness as soon as my eyes open in the morning and again in the evening.

Personally, I advocate for the ritual of welcoming stillness at dawn and dusk, anchoring each day with purpose and reflection.

Here’s a powerful practice to incorporate into your daily routine…

Begin your day finding a place to sit down and cross yours legs. Bring conscious awareness to your breath and devote yourself to taking three deliberate conscious breaths. Access the stillness and peace that lives within you. Now set yourself an intention for the day. It could be a single word or phrase that resonates with you, such as:

Today my intention is… (insert your word).

Next, close your eyes and run through in your minds eye the schedule you have for the day. As you mentally navigate as you mentally navigate through each activity, interaction, connection and habit, infuse them with the energy of your chosen intention. See yourself engaging in each task as your best self, radiating positivity and purpose.

See it as you doing it as your best self.

I like to call this practice my “Best Life Movie Reel”.

Envision your day unfolding like a movie playing out before you.

Sitting down once more at the end of the day, take a moment to reflect and then replay the day all the way back to the beginning and take note of where you can make an edit if it was actually a movie.

Observe yourself…

Consider…

What went well?

What areas can I improve upon?

What areas can I express gratitude for the blessings and lessons of the day.

By incorporating this reflective practice into your daily routine, you’ll cultivate mindfulness, intentionality, and gratitude, paving the way for a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

I do this every day and have done for years.

Check in on your own Spirit & Soul by looking at the list below, choose which one you will commit to doing this month… perhaps you could even introduce these concepts into your team meetings and culture too.

“If you listen to your own inner voice, it will tell you where you are now, and which method will work best for you in your evolution towards the light. The quieter you become the more you can hear”

– Ram Dass –

In conclusion, we all consider this area of life deeply personal to us, our upbringings and culture, experiences and travels will have given us all different teachings on how we fulfil our spiritual and soul needs in this life.

The most important thing though, is no matter what we believe that we do carve ourself time to really connect in with ourselves and our inner knowing.

When we allow ourselves to access that place within where we can drown out the world around us and silence the noise of others to listen to what our soul is saying.. is perhaps the greatest gift of self love there is.

Next month’s theme is Fun & Recreation. When was the last time you really had fun? Well we’ll find out by diving into this topic with a bit of humour and heart.

See you there…
