Prioritise Self-Care

Self-care is a buzzword that has been gaining popularity in recent years, and for good reason.

Taking care of yourself is essential for your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

However, in our busy lives, it can be challenging to prioritise self-care without neglecting our responsibilities.

In light of Spirit and Soul month – I’d love to share some practical tips on how to prioritise self-care without neglecting your other responsibilities such as running a business, attending to Mum and Dad duties or even housework.

We get it, it can be a real tricky battle to allow yourself time to practice self care when your To-Do List can appear a mile long… If it feels like that even when you give yourself a chance to relax, you haven’t embodied full permission because you might often still find your mind head deep in your to-do list not truly relaxing or enjoying the present moment.

Tip #1 Schedule your self-care time just like you would any other To Do

One of the best ways to prioritise self-care without neglecting your responsibilities is to schedule your self-care time. Just like you schedule time for work, meetings, and other responsibilities, schedule time for self-care. It can be a few hours a week or even just 15 minutes a day. By scheduling your self-care time, you are making it a priority and committing to it.

Tip #2 Find self-care activities that fit your schedule.

Self-care is not a one size fits all approach. There are many ways to practice self-care, and you need to find activities that fit your schedule. If you have a busy schedule and naturally love to be a busy person, then find self-care activities that you can do quickly, such as a 5-minute meditation or a quick workout. If you have more time, you can schedule a massage, go for a hike, or take a yoga class. Finding self-care activities that fit your schedule will make it easier to prioritise self-care without neglecting your responsibilities. You will find this way more empowering than by not.

Tip #3 Set boundaries and get comfortable saying ‘NO’

Setting boundaries is crucial when it comes to prioritising self-care without neglecting your responsibilities. You need to learn to say ‘no’ to things that do not align with your priorities and most importantly your values.. For example, if you have scheduled self-care time, don’t let work or other responsibilities interrupt it. Setting boundaries will help you create a healthy work-life balance and make it easier to prioritise self-care (leading to what we like to call ‘creating a life you don’t need to take a holiday from’), and another upside is you will find it also improves your work productivity anyhow – so it becomes the ultimate win-win.

Tip #4 Practice self-care throughout the day

Self-care doesn’t have to be a specific activity that you do at a particular time. You can practice self-care throughout the day. For example, taking breaks throughout the day to stretch, go for a walk, food prepping or even just take a few deep breaths can help you feel more relaxed and refreshed. By practicing self-care throughout the day, you are making it a part of your daily routine.

Tip #5 Get support and ask for help when you need it.

Getting support from family, friends, or even a professional can help you prioritise self-care without neglecting your responsibilities. Letting others know that you are prioritising self-care and asking for their support can help you stay accountable and make it easier to prioritise you in the process of caring for you. This is an ultimate form of love.

By scheduling your self-care time, finding self-care activities that fit your schedule, setting boundaries, practicing self-care throughout the day, and getting support, you can prioritise self-care and take care of yourself without neglecting any other of your responsibilities.

Remember, self-care is essential for your well-being, and it should be a priority in your life.

Big Love,

MJ
